Recycle Your Out Of Date Hair Products & Find Some New Favourites

We can all be guilty of hoarding half used products, thinking they might be useful.  Hair and beauty products deteriorate over time though, so it's important to check the expiry dates on your shampoos and conditioners.

It can be tempting to use hair or beauty products that are out of date, but this could result in skin irritation or even burning or itching.  In any case, hair products will not perform as well as they should once they are out of date.

The average life span of an unopened professional haircare products is usually about three years. Once opened, this decreases to around 12 to 18 months (although sometimes they might last 24 months, depending on the brand).  So take a good look at your bathroom cupboard and recycle all those expired products.   If you have anything you don't want that's unopened, a local charity may be glad to receive it.

Now you've got space, it's a great opportunity to restock with fresh supplies of your favourite products, or try some new ones!   Head over to our online shop for inspiration, or pop into our Clonmel salon and we'll be happy to advise you.  You can also follow us on Instagram for our latest product recommendations.

Hair Styling Tools Lloyds Clonmel Hair Salon

Deep Clean Your Hair Brushes

Did you know that dirty hair brushes can be an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive?  Hair, dead skin cells, products and oil can all build up in the bristles of unwashed brushes, creating the perfect home for all sorts of nasty bugs.  No one wants to put all that grease and dirt back into freshly washed hair, so it's important to get into the habit of cleaning your brushes regularly.

To keep them fresh, we recommend removing built-up hair every week then using a deep-cleansing shampoo to get your brushes properly clean.  If you use a wooden or paddle brush, make sure you check your manufacturers guidelines on washing, to avoid them getting spoilt.   A quick swish should be enough to keep them clean.

Freshen Up Your Styling Tools

If you use your electrical hair styling tools regularly, they can suffer from the same build up of dirt, products, grease and germs as your brushes.   Curlers, straighteners and wands should all be cleaned regularly, as they are often exposed to serums, sprays and oils.”

To clean your stylers, first make sure they are unplugged and never submerge them in water. Use a damp soft cloth should be enough to clean the styling plates.  Never use a scourer as this can damage them and make sure styling tool completely before using it again.

Don't forget your hairdryer filter too as this can get clogged with dust and dirt.  You should be able too remove the filter, which is usually on the back of the hairdryer.  Check your manufacturer's instructions first and make sure your dryer is unplugged.  Then simply wipe with a warm, damp (not wet) cloth to remove the dust, lint and other build up, then dry thoroughly.

Pillowcase for Smooth Hair

Upgrade You Pillowcase

You might be wondering what your bedding has got to do with your hair care!   Well, we all spend hours each night with our hair and face moving on on our pillows. All that friction against a cotton pillowcase can cause a great bed-head look with hair that is frizzy or prone to breaking.

We'd recommend investing in a silk pillowcase to avoid this.  You could try the latest bamboo silk for a more affordable option.  As well as protecting your hair, dermatologists advise that sleeping on a silky pillowcase  can help prevent wrinkles too, so it's definitely worth a try!

Whatever pillowcase you go for, make sure you wash and change it frequently, to avoid transferring dirt and bacteria build up onto your hair and skin.

Schwarzkopf Fibre Clinix Clonmel Salon

Change your hair care products with the season

We regularly adapt our skin care routine as the seasons change, such as a higher SPF in the summer, but did you know that your hair needs the same kind of consideration?

As the weather brightens up during the spring and summer months, your hair colour may start to fade in the sun, so you'll need to protect it from the UV rays with an SPF spray.  It would also benefit from a repair treatment after the winter months.   We're loving Schwarzkopf's Fibre Clinix.

If you aren't sure which products are right for  you, speak to your Lloyds stylist and who'll be happy to recommend the right ones from our wide range of products in salon.
